The Embassy Talks series brings together senior experts from the UK and Germany to discuss specialist topics of great interest to our two countries in the relaxed setting of the German Ambassador’s Residence. The journalist Julie Etchingham, Vice President of the EBRD Prof. Dr. Luise Hölscher, and the Lawyer and Chair of the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Patricia Godfrey discussed the challenges of women economic empowerment.

Embassy Talk with Imperial College London: Decarbonising Commercial Transport

On the 16 of July 2015, the Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Global Issues of the German Embassy jointly hosted a panel discussion with Imperial College’s Energy Futures Lab on e-mobility and commercial transport. In his introductory remarks Minister Dr Andreas Prothmann underlined the importance of the G7 Summit in Germany relating to climate change, in particular the G7 commitment to decarbonising the world economy during this century.

On 17 April, Minister Dr Andreas Prothmann, Head of the Economic Department of the German Embassy London, hosted an afternoon of presentations, lectures and a panel discussion on the topic “Exploring the Emerging Digital Frontiers: From Mind to Market”. The event took place as part of the Embassy Talks Series.

	Alpha Ventus, Germany’s first offshore wind farm about 45 kilometres off the North Sea island of Borkum, has been operating since 2010. The twelve wind turbines can supply around 50,000 homes with electricity.

Embassy Talks Series: The German Energiewende in critical perspective

The German Government decision to stop using nuclear power altogether by 2021 - known as "Energiewende" - has been the subject of much discussion, both in Germany and abroad. On 29 January, the Embassy’s Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Global Issues hosted an event on this energy transition.
