On 16 March, the German Embassy London, in cooperation with the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR), hosted a panel discussion titled 'Reclaiming Identity'.
Michael Newman, Chief Executive of the AJR, together with Mary Fulbrook, Professor of German History at University College London, Thomas Harding, journalist and best-selling author of Hanns and Rudolf and The House by the Lake, and Philippe Sands, Professor of Law at University College London and award-winning author of East West Street, discussed issues of Jewish-German identity after the Shoa.
Retelling the story of Holocaust survivors and their descendants on the basis of their own family histories, the panelists offered a unique aspect on the question of "reclaiming" their personal and collective German "roots".
