Ambassador Ammon and his wife Marliese Heimann-Ammon hosted bi-national concert by members of the British National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and the German Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO)

On 28 March, Ambassador Ammon and his wife Marliese Heimann-Ammon hosted a bi-national concert by members of the British National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and the German Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) at the Ambassador’s Residence. The event was supported by Deutsche Bank.

Under the leadership of NYJO’s Music Director, Mark Armstrong, eight gifted young musicians performed masterpieces of jazz. Drawn from sources as diverse as George and Ira Gershwin or Tizol, Ellington, and Mills’ popular standard “Caravan”, masterfully executed by the young musicians, the programme offered a highly entertaining introduction into the world of jazz. The outstanding performance was rewarded with standing ovations and calls for an encore.

Bringing together the best young jazz musicians under the age of 25, NYJO and BuJazzO aim to promote jazz as an exciting, engaging and inspirational art form.

Both orchestras enjoy a world-class reputation as talent factories for top jazz musicians and work with renowned soloists on a regular basis. The two bands first collaborated in 2014, with a series of joint concerts in Cologne, Hamburg, Leeds and at the London Jazz Festival.

Their ongoing partnership is a splendid example of how international cultural exchange and friendship can be strengthened through the universal language of music.

Together with the Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest of Holland as a third partner, NYJO and BuJazzO will tour the UK until April 2017.
