German Choir London
This lent, the German Choir of London will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’ Johannes-Passion. The choir was founded in 2009 by its musical director Barbara Höfling and has its home in the German Christuskirche in Knightsbridge.
The choir is a group of around forty singers sharing an interest in German music, language, and culture. The choir rehearses and performs in German.
The St John is the first of two surviving passions by German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. First performed on Good Friday 1724 in Leipzig, it is widely regarded as an especially dramatic and vocally powerful example of an oratorio.
For the Johannes-Passion, they will be accompanied by the Keld Ensemble and British and German soloists.
